A Namibian national, Emmanuel Boris, is expected to appear in the Nelspruit magistrates' court in Mpumalanga today for a bail application in connection with a R500000 cash-in-transit heist in the city last Thursday.
Boris was arrested shortly after the heist in which five heavily armed men held up five security guards who were about to deliver cash for child- support grants at Empilweni Payout Services.
No shots were fired, but the robbers managed to disarm the security guards and take the money before fleeing, leaving child-grant beneficiaries standing in queues.
Boris was arrested in Nelspruit and police said they found him in possession of about R250000 in cash as well as high-calibre firearms.
"We are still searching for the other four suspects," Lowveld police spokesman Superintendent Mtsholi Bhembe said yesterday.
Boris appeared in the same court earlier this week in handcuffs and leg-irons. His lawyer protested against this and the magistrate ordered that the cuffs and leg-irons be removed immediately.
