The former chief whip of the Limpopo provincial legislature, Machike Peter Thobejane, is appealing against his rape conviction.

Thobejane was charged with the rape of a 15-year-old relative. He was found guilty last year. The Lebowakgomo regional court yesterday extended his bail and postponed the case to March 16.

Thobejane is currently chairman of the legislature's portfolio committee of sports, arts and culture. He was arrested after the girl said he raped her in Apel village while on their way to her home. - Frank Maponya
