The national Health Department has given the Port Elizabeth Hospitals Complex R30million to help cure its staff crisis.
The complex has to fill nearly 300 vacant posts
Some of the vacant posts have not been staffed since 2003.
Four months ago almost a third of all critical healthcare posts at the Port Elizabeth Hospital Complex were not filled.
In September there were 743 vacant nursing posts, 72 vacant posts for medical staff, including doctors, and 136 vacant posts in the clinical support sector.
Staff shortages were also endemic in the human resources, procurement, finance and administration departments of the hospital's complex.
The posts now advertised include positions for specialists, doctors, nurses, administrators and general hospital assistants.
Recently the Eastern Cape legislature's Zingisa Mkabile called on the Finance Department to intervene in what he called a health crisis in provincial hospitals.
