Coach Mrad Mahjoub, who took unfashionable Tunisian team CS Sfaxien to the African Champions League final, has quit seven weeks after their last-gasp defeat.

Mahjoub steered Sfaxien to a surprise top place in their group, including ending the long-standing unbeaten record on African soil of Egypt giants Al-Ahly.

The club then beat Orlando Pirates in the semifinals to set up another two matches against Ahly in the final. They lost 2-1 on aggregate but only after the Egyptians scored a late winner in the second leg.

Sfaxien are in fifth place in the Tunisian league, seven points behind the leaders at the halfway point of the campaign. Mahjoub has been replaced at Sfaxien by Youssef El Baati, the club's website said. - BBC
