ANC deputy president Jacob Zuma went on trial in the Johannesburg high court after accusations that he raped a 31-year-old HIV-positive woman.

The woman was the daughter of his late close comrade.

Zuma, 64, was acquitted after the court ruled that the woman had lied about the incident. She left the country soon after.

In September this year, the embattled former deputy president of the country had his corruption case struck from the roll in the Pietermaritzburg high court. The court ruled that the prosecution was not ready to proceed.

The state is expected to bring an application again in March to have documents believed to implicate Zuma on corruption charges released from Mauritius.
