Pupils living in rural areas should be treated with extra consideration because they come from the most disadvantaged communities.

It is shocking that nearly 400 pupils of Mzamowethu Public School in East London have not received their government-sponsored food packs since May.

The school principal has put the blame squarely at the door of the Eastern Cape Department of Education.

These poor children are expected to have enough energy to concentrate in the classroom for the whole day- without food.

But the officials denying them nourishment enjoy breakfast and lunch at work.

Ignoring the plight of desperate children is not only irresponsible, it is a sin.
