A 30-year-old man briefly appeared in the Kokstad magistrates' court yesterday charged with bludgeoning his grandmother to death with a hammer.
Fikile Mahlasela, of Bhongweni township in Kokstad, allegedly attacked his granny on Friday after accusing her of witchcraft.
Mahlasela is said to have struck his grandmother with a hammer at her home when he found her lying on a sofa.
She was admitted to the Kokstad Hospital and later transferred to the Pietermaritzburg Hospital, where she died.
Mahlasela is facing a murder charge. He was remanded until his bail application on November 13. - Sowetan Reporter
