My girlfriend and I have been together for a year. I am 24 and she is 21

She is extremely beautiful and gets a lot of attention from men. Even in front of me, other men will try and pick her up.

I am nothing special but she insists she loves me. Sometimes I can't believe she has chosen me.

She tells me that I am too jealous and that I have nothing to worry about because she would never cheat on me.

I have to admit this situation is driving me mad and I cannot seem to control myself. What should I do? -  Madly Jealous Man, Pretoria

DUDU'S ADVICE

Jealousy is a very dangerous emotion and might result in you losing your girlfriend.

The first thing to consider is that you have to control yourself. Unfortunately most people who suffer from jealousy have a low self-esteem. What you write about not believing she has chosen you is a strong indication that this is what you suffer from.

It is possible to work on this by reading on the subject and being more aware of yourself and your good qualities.

Don't ever jump to conclusions about her or the people she associates with. Always be prepared to listen to her because communication is one of the most important aspects in relationships.

Make sure that the two of you are always truthful and honest with each other. Your girlfriend is with you because of the person you are, so derive confidence from that.

If you continue being jealous you will drive her away.
