After four years playing her much-loved character on Scandal, actress Fulu Mugovhani decided to leave photojournalist Anzani behind to spread her wings.

Mugovhani will be heating up the new season of hit TV drama Ring of Lies when it returns for season two on Monday, 31 July.

She will portray a feisty and sexy musangwe (traditional Venda fist-fighting game) fighter who defies her conservative father to pursue her dream of becoming a champion boxer.

“She is fire. What I love about the characters I’ve always played is that they are strong women, but also not stereotypical female role models. She is not an Instagram girl or anything like that,” Mugovhani points out.

“So for example I had to wear 25% makeup, because we wanted to keep the character as real as possible. So what you see on-screen is my skin.

“It’s for the first time also that I’m playing such a young girl. She is 19 years old and all the characters I have played before have been way older. People are always surprised when they meet me in person and I look way younger than Anzani.”

Former Generations actor Mangaliso Ngema and Isidingo actor Anga Makubalo will also be the newest addition to season two of the Mzansi Magic drama starring Dineo Nchabeleng and Mpho Sebeng in the lead.

After Scandal! Mugovhani had a short stint on SABC 3 soapie Isidingo as shebeen gossip-monger Grace. A role that she loved very much and is open to reprise it presented the chance.

“I left Scandal! because I felt that my character on the show had done it all. She stopped challenging me as an actress and I love to play. But I’m very open to returning to that role if her storyline excite me once again,” Mugovhani explained.
