DJ MERLON of Koze Kuse fame has refused to play at a victory party for an EFF students council tomorrow.

The hitmaker was scheduled to perform at the University of Limpopo but pulled out and returned the appearance fee because the organisers did not furnish him with details of the event.

Merlon is a member of the ANC Youth League and said that he does not mix his career with politics.

He said he was made to believe that the event was for varsity students, and only discovered later it was an EFF SRC victory party and that the main speaker would be party leader Julius Malema.

"I only discovered it when I saw a flyer with EFF members and [booked] musicians.

"I prefer to be told upfront if politics is involved so that I can decide if I want to go or not.

"If it's a political event, I need to look at a lot of things. I am not against the EFF, I will perform next time if they tell me in advance. After all, DJ Merlon is for everyone," he said.

Merlon further said that he was worried about security issues and how his brand might be affected should something go wrong. He said he had performed at ANC and other parties' events before because he was told in advance.

"When I get invites I scrutinise them because I don't want to find myself at an event I do not even understand. Nothing has happened to me before but I am just being cautious."

Other musicians billed to perform are Mandla Spikiri, L'vovo Derrango and DJ Malwela.

Attempts to get comment from EFF national spokesman Mbuyiseni Ndlozi drew a blank.
