RADIO 2000 presenter David Mashabela must decide whether he wants to be a presenter or a counsellor.

And if he wants to be a counsellor, then perhaps he should take some crash course so that he can be better equipped to advise listeners.

You would think likewise if you listened to the self-proclaimed king of the airwaves telling a confused woman to dump her man because she suspected him of cheating.

The poor woman kept telling "the king" that she loved the man and therefore was finding it difficult to leave him. But to Mashabela this was a simple: get another man and move on.

It could well be that the woman had actually decided to move on but just wanted support. I think Mashabela should have been a bit more sensitive.

I had the pleasure of engaging "the king" during the recent radio awards and he gave me his business card. Now "your highness" may be a lot of things, but certainly not counsellor.

Even though it bothers me a lot why radio presenters like to counsel listeners on their shows, it could probably work if it was done with sensitivity and understanding.

Other than that, Mashabela's show is quite decent and entertaining.

He can be quite silly sometimes. Just the other day he teased listeners by asking them to call and stop him playing a favourite oldie.

I personally would leave relationship topics to magazines and talk shows.

If you are doing this to boost listenership, maybe you can be forgiven, but if you have run out of ideas then here is some advise: The National Planning Commission in the Presidency has appealed to the nation to discuss ideas to take the country forward.
