Celtic drubbing leaves Malajila shattered

On the morning after the disastrous night before, Mamelodi Sundowns striker Cuthbert Malajila and coach Pitso Mosimane walked into the press conference room at the PSL looking like they were at a funeral.

Not even a trophy and a prize money of R5000 for the Absa Premiership player of the month for February and March could lighten up the striker's mood.

The 5-0 defeat to Bloemfontein Celtic at Lucas Moripe Stadium in midweek was still fresh in his mind, as the defending champions all but surrendered their title to leaders Kaizer Chiefs.

"It's the first time I lose 5-0 since I started playing professional football 10 years ago. It's unacceptable because we are a big team, but these things happen. It has happened to many teams," Malajila said.

"It came at a wrong time but we have to keep on believing. Our next game is next Wednesday against Platinum Stars and we have to come back strong. Impossible is nothing. You never know what tomorrow brings. I would like for us to win all our games and see where that takes us."

Malajila scored five goals in February and March, taking his tally of goals in the league to 10. He's one goal behind top scorer Lerato Lamola of Celtic.

Malajila also has five assists and is eager to contribute more, with Sundowns still in the hunt for the Nedbank Cup title.

"It (the award) will motivate me to work even harder. I have something to fight for. I have to do well for the team and for myself."

Mosimane received coach of the month award.
