Sundowns part ways with Nascimento

Mamelodi Sundowns have parted ways with their Brazilian defender Ricardo Nascimento.

Sowetan has been informed that the 30-year-old has gone back home to recuperate after undergoing surgery to sort out a pelvic injury.

Nascimento was not registered for this season, because he's going to miss the whole season and we have been informed that the two parties have parted ways.

"They agreed to part ways, but Sundowns don't want this whole thing out there," revealed our source.

Sundowns spokesman Thulani Thuswa refused to comment on the issue and referred Sowetan to the club's legal and commercial manager, Yogesh Singh, whose phone was constantly off yesterday. Nascimento and his agent Marcelo Robalinho could also not be reached.

Nascimento joined Sundowns from Portugal's top-flight side Academica just over a year ago and went on to play 30 matches for the Tshwane side.

Sundowns have taken advantage of Nascimento's absence by signing Ghanaian goalkeeper Brimah Razak to make it five registered foreigners, as per PSL rules, the others being Fares Hachi, Bangaly Soumahoro, Yannick Zakri and Leonardo Castro. Khama Billiat, Denis Onyango and Anthony Laffor have SA citizenship after spending more than five years in the country and are registered as naturalised citizens.

Meanwhile, ex-Sundowns defender-cum-midfielder Mzikayise Mashaba is apparently seeking compensation after he was given the boot for misconduct after he allegedly substituted himself in a match against Baroka earlier this year.

He still had eight months remaining on his contract and it is understood that he is fighting for a payout.
