The arrival of Rhulani Mokwena as Orlando Pirates' new assistant coach may cast uncertainty in the futures of two deputy coaches - Benson Mhlongo and Harold Legodi - who were assisting the just-departed coach Kjell Jonevret.

Mokwena was the assistant coach at Mamelodi Sundowns and now he will be Milutin "Micho" Sredojevic's right-hand man at the Buccaneers.

Mhlongo had been at the club for some time now. He also guided the club's MultiChoice Diski Challenge side last season. Legodi was only brought in seven months ago.

Upon his appointment, Mokwena thanked Sundowns president Patrice Motsepe and coach Pitso Mosimane for allowing him to accept the Pirates offer.

"I thank the president and the coach for not only providing me with an opportunity ... I thank them for the grace with which they accepted and supported my acceptance of the Orlando Pirates challenge," said Mokwena via a statement posted on the official Pirates Twitter feed yesterday.

Mokwena was born and raised in Orlando, Soweto. He is the nephew to South African football legend and Cosmos owner Jomo Sono.

It remains to be seen what will happen to Mhlongo and Legodi.

Attempts to reach Pirates senior administrator Floyd Mbele for comment yesterday were unsuccessful.
