Although Orlando Pirates defender Thembela Sikhakhane might be joining AmaZulu on a season-long loan, his heart is still with the Buccaneers despite a fruitless maiden season at the Sea Robbers.

Sikhakhane, 24, is optimistic that he will make his mark at the Soweto Giants when he returns from Usuthu at the end of the upcoming season.

"I was not happy with my first season at Pirates because we achieved nothing. I am positive that I will be a better player when I go back there [next season].

"I love the club and they will always be in my heart. Playing for Pirates was a dream come true because when I was young I wished for that opportunity.''

The Ulundi, KwaZulu-Natal-born defender, who only registered 14 appearances in Pirates' disastrous campaign, feels playing for a team from his home province will improve his game.

"I am excited to be back in KZN. I am sure it will show in my game that I am home now. As far as I am eager to help my new club, I have nothing to prove to Pirates because they have contributed positively in my life. I am thankful to them," stated the former Lamontville Golden Arrows right-back.

During his three-year stay with Arrows, Sikhakhane made 51 appearances in all competitions. With this statistic, it may be understandable for Sikhakhane to pin his game time hopes on playing in the province of his birth.

When he was asked if he would have loved to be loaned out to his former club Abafana Bes'thende instead of AmaZulu, Sikhakhane was diplomatic in his response.

"I am not involved in the rivalry. I just accepted this opportunity because I want to play football. I cannot say if I would have preferred Arrows or not, but I am happy that I will be playing again. I want to help AmaZulu finish inside the top eight,'' said Sikhakhane.
