Brockie wants 20 league goals next season

SuperSport United in-form striker Jeremy Brockie has set his sights on a 20-goal mark in the upcoming Absa Premiership season.

After registering eight league goals in the just-concluded season, Brockie is confident that he can reach his target.

"Before I came to South Africa I had never won a trophy as a professional player.

But now I have won two trophies [Nedbank Cups] and that shows that I am growing as a player.

"Now I strive for 20 goals in the league and win the Golden Boot prize, that has been my goal since I arrived here [in 2015] and I trust that it is time now [to achieve that],'' Brockie told Sowetan.

The New Zealand international's brace in SuperSport's 4-1 win over Gabonese side Mounana in the CAF Confederation Cup last group match on Saturday helped Matsatsantsa qualify for the quarterfinals.

Brockie has now scored 20 goals in all competitions this season.

Despite this feat, the 29-year-old marksman feels there's still a room for improvement.

"Last season I scored 18 goals in all competitions. Now it's 20, it is a proud moment and I am very happy. But I can still improve and score more in the upcoming season," stated the ex-Toronto man.

Since last season, Brockie has been linked with a move away from SuperSport but the switch has not materialised and it remains difficult to predict if he will stay or move away from Matsatsantsa.

"I am enjoying my football here. I could move to a different club and find myself sitting on the bench, however that does not mean that I'll stay here because I am in my comfort zone."
