The club intends to start negotiating with him this week and finalise the matter as soon as possible.

That appointment is part of Stars’ plans to restructure the team “in order to take the club to another dimension”.

Dikwena will make further changes in the technical team and playing personnel as part of those plans.

“We have identified a coach and would like to finalise the matter in the course of the week‚” Stars’ general manager Senzo Mazingiza said.

“But you also have to remember that we’ve just returned from Tunisia (where Dikwena lost 3-0 to CS Sfaxien in the Caf Confederation Cup).

"We will properly start the talks because we hadn’t spoken to anyone yet. We just identified who we think is an ideal candidate. There are many things to factor in before we reach an agreement.

"The chairman (Cliff Ramoroa) said it in the statement that we will have a coach before the start of the next season.”

In Johnson’s second stint with Dikwena‚ he guided the club to a third-place finish in the 2015/16 season which guaranteed the Phokeng-based club a place in the Confederation Cup.

Johnson struggled to better that performance in the 2016/17 season. Dikwena finished in ninth position.

Their only saving grace was reaching the group stage of a continental competition for the first time in the club’s history.

But Stars have struggled in the Confederation Cup.

They sit at the bottom of their group‚ with just one point after three games against Mbabane Swallows of Swaziland‚ Algeria’s MC Alger and CS Sfaxien.
