Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango is banking on Bidvest Wits to drop points against Free State Stars, who the Clever Boys have struggled to beat away in recent years.

Wits have not come away with a win in Free State against Ea Lla Koto since 2013, when they won 2-0. In fact they have managed only that win since 2010 away to Stars.

The log-leaders take on the relegation-threatened Stars at Goble Park, while second-placed Sundowns host another relegation candidate in Baroka at Lucas Moripe Stadium tomorrow (both matches 7.30pm).

"In football you never know where you are going to drop points. We know that they [Wits] struggle when they go to Free State and we hope that we get [a positive] result against Baroka," said Onyango, who was named player of the month for April yesterday.

"We know their coach Gavin [Hunt] is experienced when it comes to keeping the position at the top of the log. I've worked with him before and I know how strong he is. It's in Wits' hands, but if we get a chance to get on top of the log I think we will win it. We're just hoping they will drop points."

Onyango said he thought his season was over when he suffered a knee injury in February. But he came back last month and helped Sundowns to five straight wins, with five clean sheets.

That's why the Ugandan international walked away with the player of the month award.

"It's good to win individual awards, but at the same time it's good to win as a group. We have three games to go and if I get clean sheets, it will be better for the team and we will have a chance of winning [the title]."
