Thanda can be toppled, says Jomo

Jomo Cosmos coach Jomo Sono is certain that Ezenkosi can still catch the National first Division (NFD) leaders Thanda Royal Zulu and secure automatic promotion to the Absa Premiership.

Still fresh from a 2-1 Nedbank Cup win against fourth- tier side Rovers United last Saturday, Sono is confident that Cosmos can return to the top division despite being 11 points adrift of Thanda, who have 41 points. "I still maintain that we still have a good chance [to gain promotion].

"When you look at the log, you will agree with me that from position 10 to number two, all those teams have an opportunity to topple Thanda," Sono told Sowetan.

"As for them [Thanda], I am sure that they will [want to] make sure that they hold on to their lead at the top and that will make it more interesting."

He added: "The boys are showing signs that they want top-flight football next season. Cosmos is not a small team. We do not belong to the second tier. It will require a lot of hard work to return to the Absa Premiership and we are prepared to give all it takes."

Ezenkosi, who got relegated last season, are in fifth position on the NFD table and are separated from fourth-placed Stellenbosch by a point heading into their Sunday clash at Tsakane Stadium (3.30pm).
