Ajax may have to wait longer for a first win

To say Ajax Cape Town have had a poor start would be an understatement. And they are faced with another difficult assignment as they host Bidvest Wits at Cape Town Stadium tonight [7.30pm].

Ajax are one of just three PSL teams without a win after five matches and them being in the 15th spot is an indication of their struggles. They have drawn two and lost three of their five league matches so far. The other clubs without a win are Free State Stars, who have played six matches, and Mamelodi Sundowns.

But you may just as well exclude the CAF Champions League winners from the list of struggling teams because they have played just one league match due to their demanding schedule.

Back to Ajax. They have the third worst defence in the league having conceded seven goals and aren't as good in attack as they have scored just three. To make matters worse, Nathan Paulse is not available for the match against title hopefuls Wits because of an injury.

Ajax head coach Roger de Sa has admitted that his former side, who are eighth on the log with seven points from three games, will be tough to beat. "We are playing a team that beat the African champions [Sundowns] three weeks ago in a cup final [MTN8], and this is a team with massive ambitions trying to win the league," De Sa said ahead of tonight's clash.

"I think Wits are probably one of the favourites [to win the league] and they have bought well. They have a massive squad with quality players, so it is another difficult one for us. We haven't had the best run, we know that and we have our own problems to get over."

The Urban Warriors and the Clever Boys have met in 32 league matches, with both sides claiming 11 wins, while 10 matches have been drawn.
