The last time Bidvest Wits won a trophy dates back to six years ago when Sifiso Myeni was in his first stint with the club.

Now the midfielder believes the Clever Boys have the quality to end the barren run since Wits downed AmaZulu 3-0 in the Nedbank Cup final that marked the reopening of the FNB Stadium before the Fifa World Cup.

Back then, Myeni was in their line-up alongside the likes of Tefu Mashamaite, Sipho Mngomezulu and Patrick Phungwayo, to name a few.

Myeni, who has rejoined the side after four seasons at Orlando Pirates, admitted that Wits didn't have the strongest of teams in 2010.

But he feels the team now has the quality all round to compete against anyone, including Mamelodi Sundowns who they meet in the MTN8 final at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.

"I think the quality is different. When I was still here [from 2008 till 2012], we used to have maybe two or three players that we thought could be match winners.

"Now it is all different and it is a new team that works very hard. We have a good squad," Myeni said.

Myeni is adamant that Wits can now dust off their trophy cabinet to create a spot for the iconic R8-million winner-takes-all trophy.

"It's been a long time since Wits won a trophy so we know what it would mean to the club.

"There are only two players in this team that were with Wits [in 2010] and that is myself and [goalkeeper] Darren Keet, so we have to help the guys with our experience."
