Willard Katsande has tipped countrymen Mitchell Katsvairo and Edmore Chirambadare to make a big impact at Kaizer Chiefs.

Midfield hardman Katsande – the key cog in Chiefs’ engine room – said while the two have predictably not made enough impact on the voting to be included in Saturday afternoon’s Carling Black Label Cup line-up‚ new signings Katsvairo at striker and Chirambadare in midfield can bring a lot to Chiefs.

Amakhosi meet fiercest rivals Orlando Pirates in the Black Label Cup at FNB Stadium this afternoon. The preseason match allows supporters to vote for the starting line-ups by SMS or on the internet.

Katsande said of Chiefs’ new signings made so far in the off-season: “The management made the decision to bring them on board and that shows that they value these players.

“Without any doubt they are going to bring quality to the team.

“I believe my countrymen‚ Katsvairo and Chirambadare‚ can bring a different dimension to the team. They are hard workers. We all know the guys from Zim work hard.

“I’m tipping them to succeed here.”

Among Amakhosi’s other acquisitions are right-back Ramahlwe Mphahlele from Mamelodi Sundowns‚ left-back Sibusiso Khumalo from SuperSport United and Zambian striker Lewis Macha.

Chiefs coach Steve Komphela will not be able to field new players against Pirates though‚ as the supporters have predictably voted in Amakhosi’s more popular tried and tested.

Katsande said Chiefs will use the match in front of a capacity crowd at FNB to identify areas of their game that need attention ahead of the new season.

“It’s the preseason but you know that when you play a derby it’s more than a preseason match‚” the midfielder said.

“There’s history between the two teams. Obviously we need to approach the game with a positive attitude‚ to execute what we have been doing in the preseason and also pick up on mistakes so we know where we need to polish our game.”

Katsande said a preseason camp held in Nelspruit had helped the new players become more comfortable at their new team.

“The camp in Nelspruit was largely about allowing the new guys to gel with the team.

“And to understand them more and for them to understand the players who have been here. And I think it worked well.”
