Hartley narrowly misses out on final

South African canoeist Bridgitte Hartley was the first paddler to miss out on the women's K1 200m at the Rio Olympic Games on Monday.

Hartley would finish third in her semi-final, which was one of three, missing out on an automatic place in the final by two tenths of a second.

Unfortunately her time of 41.27 seconds was not fast enough to qualify as the fastest loser, seeing her finish ninth out of the 24 strong field.

Hartley will compete in the women's K1 500m later in the week, an event where she won bronze in London 2012.
