Indongo out to upstage Crawford in mega-bout

It remains to be seen if Africa's shining star boxer Julius "Blue Machine" Indongo can continue upsetting bookies tomorrow by defeating American favourite Terrence "Hunter" Crawford in a unification bout.

The WBC, IBF, WBA, WBO and IBO junior welterweight belts will be on the line.

Namibian Indongo holds the WBA, IBF and IBO belts while Crawford is the current WBC and WBO holder.

The winner becomes the undisputed world champion.

Since the WBO came into existence in 1988, only two boxers, Americans Bernard Hopkins and Jermaine Taylor, have managed to simultaneously hold the WBO, WBC, WBA and IBF belts.

Indongo and Crawford are eyeing a share of boxing history . Whoever emerges victorious will become just the third member of the highly exclusive club, and the first since Taylor in 2005.

Indongo is a revved up Ferrari who has produced wins against top fighters. Previously undefeated Eduard Troyanovsky went down in less than a minute to lose his IBF and IBO junior welterweight belts to Indongo in Moscow in December.

The Russian had been on a run of 26 straight wins.

Indongo then outpointed Ricky Burns for the WBA belt in the UK in April.

Indongo - who is trained by former professional boxer Nestor Tobias in Windhoek - is undefeated in 22 bouts.

Crawford, 29, will have the benefit of raucous support from his home state of Nebraska and an advantage in natural ability.

Expectations are that the fight will attract a capacity crowd at the 16000-seat Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, the Nebraska capital.

Crawford understands that the fight is the most important of his career. He has designs on moving up from top-five status to the number one spot on most pound-for-pound lists. He is undefeated in 31 fights with 22 knockouts.

On the other hand, Indongo, the 34-year-old left-hander, is a good boxer with power and knows well how to use his reach and height.
