Port Elizabeth-based side Chippa United are officially the busiest team in the transfer market with 13 new signings so far.

Port Elizabeth-based side Chippa United are officially the busiest team in the transfer market with 13 new signings so far.

The Chilli Boys announced yesterday that they had acquired as many as three players from Orlando Pirates, including goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo.

Not one to shy away from signing players (they signed 16 before the start of last season), Chippa boss Siviwe Mpengesi has also brought back some of the club's former players.

Mark Mayambela, who was with the club in 2015, is back after he was bought from Ajax Cape Town.

Fellow midfielder Zitha Macheke, who also used to play for Chippa, is back from his stint with Thanda Royal Zulu.

The club's former captain, James Okwuosa, has also returned after a disappointing spell with Pirates. The Nigerian defender made just one appearance for the Buccaneers after joining the club in the January transfer window.

Former Maritzburg United captain Kurt Lentjies has also been roped in to bolster the squad for the 2017/18 season, while they have promoted Xolani Maholo from the Multichoice Diski Challenge (MDC) team.

Mahlatse Makudubela will be hoping for more game time than he got at Pirates, while Moeketsi Sekola arrives from relegated Highlands Park on loan. Samuel Julies, Stanley Makgoka, Gerald Modisane, Mlungisi Mbunjana and Phetso Maphanga complete the list of their new recruits.

The club is yet to confirm the list of those that will be let go.
