Mthalane shows Libranza respect

Battle-marked IBO flyweight champion Moruti "Baby Face" Mthalane refuses to give credence to the assumption that he will brush aside Genesis "Cobra" Libranza next month.

The feeling is that the 23-year-old Filipino is still too wet behind the ears, after only 11 fights, to upset Mthalane at Wembley Arena, Johannesburg on April 28. Libranza is rated No 26 by the IBO.

Mthalane has had 34 fights, with 32 wins and two losses.

"You cannot take any boxer for granted irrespective of their fight record. Every boxer in the ratings has equal chances to win," warned Mthalane, who will make his debut under trainer Colin Nathan.

The diminutive yet aggressive warrior from Lindelani in Durban said his preparations were going smoothly.

The champ last fought in December 2015 when he pulverised Renz Rosia from the Philippines into submission in 10 rounds in Durban.

Nathan said: "It will be imperative that we keep it tight in the early rounds because Libranza's knockouts were in the early rounds. Moruti's experience, toughness and durability will take over as the fight progresses."

The bout will headline the TK Promotions bill that will be televised live by SABC.
