Maluleke not retiring yet

It's hard to imagine Polokwane City without Jabulani Maluleke in central midfield. It's hard to imagine Polokwane City without Jabulani Maluleke in central midfield.

He turned 35 last week, so he's probably going to retire soon, right? Wrong. The midfielder is keen to play for as long as his legs can keep going, so the club's supporters need not worry about losing their influential captain any time soon.

"I am not thinking about retirement. I am enjoying my stay at Polokwane City and I am enjoying my football. I have been playing good football, so I will take it one season at a time.

"My body allows me to continue playing, so I have to keep looking after myself. You have to maintain your diet," said Maluleke.

City need his experience in the team and this was recently proven when he helped the younger players come to terms with the departure of coach Luc Eymael, who has joined Bloemfontein Celtic.

"It came as a shock when they told us the coach has left. We had to play a big game against Sundowns, but the technical staff gave us a boost and it helped a lot.

"We [experienced players] had to talk to the youngsters and tell them this is how football works. You have to adjust and move on with life."

Sixth-placed City have a good chance of finishing in the top eight for the first time in their history, having spent most of this season in the top half of the standings.

"We have to reach our target of making the top eight.

"If we can just maintain our performances, then we can make it. It would be a big achievement for this club to be in the top eight."
