Before he retires, SuperSport United defender Morgan Gould would like to get a taste of success on the continent and the CAF Confederation Cup gives both him and the club an opportunity to emulate their neighbours Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sundowns are the current kings of Africa.

Gould, 33, has a collection of medals that most local players envy, having won all domestically. But a Confederation Cup medal would certainly increase the value of the collection he can proudly show to his grand kids one day.

"That's every player's dream [to win a continental club competition]. I would like to put my hands on something like that before I retire.

"It's not easy, but we need to try do what we can on the pitch," said Gould, ahead of SuperSport's first-round, first-leg clash against Sudanese outfit Al-Ahly Shendi at Shendi Stadium on Sunday (7.30pm).

"For us to get silverware, whether it's in the Confed Cup or any other competition, would be good for the team and for South Africans. SA teams have been doing well. So why not do what our neighbours did?"

Matsatsantsa, who beat Elgeco Plus of Madagascar in the preliminary round, will fly out to Sudan tomorrow, with no tangible information about their opponents.

Unlike Sundowns who do thorough homework on their opponents, SuperSport had little to no information as they went into training yesterday, the morning after their Absa Premiership match against Orlando Pirates.

"None whatsoever," was Gould's response when asked if they have information on Shendi. "It's a big test for us. It will be a difficult one playing there because it's hot. We just need to go there and have our mind set on one thing.

"Sudanese teams are physical and run a lot. They'll have the 12th man [supporters], but we need to get the job done. I think a 2-0 result would be ideal."

Shendi have appeared in the Confederation Cup six times, but have only reached the group stages once - in 2012.
