Even with the tough times‚ Pirates' new winger Norodien loves being a Buccaneer

After a slow start soft-spoken Orlando Pirates winger Riyaad Norodien has been a sensation since his arrival in Johannesburg from Ajax Cape Town last year‚ and wants to continue his eye-catching performances to further endear himself to the Buccaneers fans.

Speaking on the eve of the Soweto Derby against bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday‚ Norodien said he joined Pirates to feature in high stakes matches and is looking forward to the challenge.

“I am working hard every day at training with the help of my teammates and I am enjoying myself‚ because the atmosphere is good. I am looking forward to many seasons and many derbies with Pirates because this is one of the reasons I joined the club‚” the South Africa Under-23 international winger said.

Pirates go into this big clash sitting in 10th position in the Absa Premiership and in desperate need of a win to move a few places up on the ladder‚ depending on the results of matches involving Polokwane City‚ Golden Arrows‚ Maritzburg United and Chippa United.

Chiefs‚ on the other hand‚ are involved in a battle with SuperSport United‚ Cape Town City‚ Bidvest Wits and Mamelodi Sundowns for the title and victory on Saturday will keep them firmly in the race.

Pirates have notably struggled with form with in their 10-match winless run stretching backj to late November‚ having in that period lost 6-0 to Memelodi Sundowns‚ which led to their fans expressing their dissatisfaction by invading the Loftus pitch.

On the face of this adversity‚ Norodien said he had to take the good with the bad because football was not always smooth sailing.

“Generally it has been great being a Pirates player‚ but there have been ups and downs‚” the 21-year-old admitted.

“As a football player you have to be strong and do what you have to do to make sure that the club succeeds.

“We are aware of the situation and we will do everything in our power to make sure that we turn things around and make our supporters happy. Hopefully it starts with the Soweto Derby‚” he said.

Norodien said Bucs’ players are enjoying working with new coach Kjell Jonevret‚ who joined the team last week to replace caretaker Augusto Palacios .

“He has been good in the few days that we have been working with him‚ he is a great communicator and he is helping us to become better‚’ the players said.
