Jonevret looks to upstage Chiefs

Orlando Pirates coach Kjell Jonevret sees light at the tunnel amid the team's struggles so much so that he's looking forward to Saturday's Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs.

The Buccaneers head into the epic match with a pitiable record, having gone 10 matches without a win. They drew 1-1 with Polokwane City at the weekend, in what was Jonevret's first match in charge.

Rodney Ramagalela put the visitors ahead after 53 minutes, but Dove Wome saved Pirates' blushes just four minutes later. The Swede appeared very encouraging to his players, especially at full time when he spoke to them on the pitch.

Later on, he matched his on-field actions with encouraging words, including a message for the disgruntled supporters.

"I don't think the fans were too happy with the 1-1 draw. Like us they want to win and they are important because they are going to help us to win games," Jonevret said.

The 54-year-old is new to the country and admitted that he had not seen enough of Chiefs' games - who are unbeaten in their last seven games. Jonevret, however, believes he has enough time this week to work on a plan to fare better against their bitter rivals.

"No, I haven't seen enough of Chiefs. I saw the derby when they broadcast it on Swedish television last year. I think I have a lot of time this week and we have a good team of analysts," he said.

"But we are also going to take a lot of time to see what we did [against Polokwane] and maybe what we can do better against Chiefs."

Jonevret said the message he got from the players on his arrival last week was that they are struggling defensively - they have conceded 28 goals in 18 games.
