FIERY female SA bantamweight boxing champion Bukiwe "Anaconda" Nonina returns home to Idutywa, Eastern Cape, for the fight of her life when she defends her title for the fifth time on Sunday.

FIERY female SA bantamweight boxing champion Bukiwe "Anaconda" Nonina returns home to Idutywa, Eastern Cape, for the fight of her life when she defends her title for the fifth time on Sunday.

Victory for the Limpopo-based Nonina against Simangele Hadebe of Gauteng at Dutywa's King Hintsa FET College will see her become the rightful owner of the Boxing SA (BSA) belt.

Nonina, 24, is on the verge of becoming the first local female boxer to own a BSA belt since female boxing was incepted here in 2006.

She is under the guidance of trainer Immanuel Neluoende in Giyani. Neluoende has helped Nonina win nine of her 13 bouts since she turned professional in 2011.

The tournament on Sunday - an eight bout card - will be staged jointly by Prince Ntsikayezwe Sigcawu of Isizwe Boxing Promotions and Mbhashe Local Municipality.

"We are ready to face Simangele," said Neluoende.

"This fight came at the opportune time when we had been training hard for the unification championship [WBC, UBO, WBF] against Marianne Marston.

"That fight was supposed to have happened in London last weekend but was postponed to November 27, so we are fit and ready."

Neluoende added: "We respect Simangele because every boxer in the ratings has an equal chance of winning but I can tell you now that this fight won't go 10 rounds. Bukiwe has no opposition at home."

Nonina and Neluoende have already arrived in Mthatha.

Sigcawu has included Mfusi Maxhayi, a former IBO International and WBF Intercontinental bantamweight holder in the bill.

This will be an opportunity for Maxhayi to redeem himself. The boxer from Mdantsane has not seen action since suffering two consecutive losses to Bongani Mahlangu and Bonakele Bikitsha last year.

Maxhayi will take on Simo Mbande from Uitenhage but in the junior featherweight division over six rounds.

Newcomers Mawande Mbusi and Mihlali Matyumza will meet in a bantamweight clash over four rounds, while Goodman Zanempi and Asanda Jacobs will battle over six rounds in the junior welterweight class.

There will be four more bouts and action will begin at 1pm.
