Former Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund has surprisingly been appointed as the new Highlands Park coach after just five games into the new Premier Soccer League season.

Igesund replaces Allan Freese‚ who helped the side gain promotion to the topflight and had overseen the newcomers' five matches of the new season.

The club confirmed Igesund's arrival in a one line statement issued by club director Sinky Mnisi on Tuesday morning.

"Be informed that Highlands Park have appointed Gordon Igesund as their head coach with immediate effect. Reasons and all other related issues will be released later‚" the statement said.

Igesund was widely believed to be the favourite to get the Zambia national team head coaching job and his appointment by Highlands Park is a surprise.

Highlands Park have played five games and they are 13th on the premiership table.

They have won one game‚ drawn one and lost three since the start of the campaign in August.

They have been leaking goals at an alarming rate and have the joint worst defensive record in the league - Baroka FC share the dubious honour - after conceding 10 goals in five matches. - TMG Digital
