Fear of the unknown keeps Cape Town City on their toes ahead of Baroka clash

Eric Tinkler is concerned about the unknown factor that Baroka FC will bring to the Mother City on Saturday when his Cape Town City side take on the Absa Premiership newcomer

“They are a very unpredictable team. Obviously they are affected‚ to a degree‚ because of the poor result they got at home against Chippa but they would have had a bit of time now to rectify those mistakes because of the FIFA (international) break‚" Tinkler said.

“I fancy we are going to have to work extremely hard if we are going to get a result against them. It’s not going to be easy. I’ve said this so many times before‚ but it is these games that you worry about the most.

"When you are playing against the big boys you know the motivation is there. Now it is about doing the same against these guys as you’ve done against Chiefs and Pirates. You’ve got to produce the same performance and the same consistency‚ even when you play against the so-called smaller teams.”

Tinkler said City had made a good start since being established as a new franchise in the Premier Soccer League.

“Reflecting on what we’ve done so far‚ we have to be happy. But at the same time‚ we are also disappointed because we know we’ve left points lying‚ particularly away from home‚" the coach said.

"I thought our last game against Highlands Park‚ we could have taken all three points. Against Pirates too‚ our performance deserved three points. But I’m happy overall but I also know it’s a long league.

"There’s a long‚ long way to go and it’s important that week-on-week you get better. That’s got to be our ultimate aim‚ that we constantly grow as a team and that we get better‚ show more unity‚ show more consistency in our performances as a team and as individuals.”
