Outspoken United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams fires a salvo at Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba

Frustrated Supersport United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has sent a message to Bafana Bafana coach Ephraim "Shakes" Mashaba and described his exclusion from the national team as a "slap in the face."

Williams questioned the inclusion of Orlando Pirates reserve goalkeer Jackson Mabokgwane in the two Bafana squads that played against Burkina Faso and Ghana recently.

"For me not being there it’s a slap on my face‚ someone like Jackson getting a call-up and hasn’t been playing‚" the outspoken United player said.

Mashaba selected Kaizer Chiefs No1 Itumeleng Khune‚ Brighton Mhlongo and Mabokgwane to Bafana's recent matches.

But it is Mabokgwane's presence in the national team - who has not played for Pirates this season - that seems to have irked Williams the most.

"Obviously I would love to be there (in the national team).

"Last season when I wasn’t not getting called up‚ I expected it and I knew that I wasn’t doing well.

"My team wasn’t doing well and I was conceding lot of goals. But now‚ I mean I've been keeping clean sheets and I've been doing well.

"For me not being there it’s a slap on my face‚ someone like Jackson getting a call-up and hasn’t been playing.

"I just need to knuckle down‚ keep working hard and if my chance comes I will grab it‚" he said. - TMG Digital
