Mahachi happy he rejected Chiefs

Most players would welcome a move to Kaizer Chiefs but Kudakwashe Mahachi is an exception.

The 23-year-old was one of the many players who were linked with Chiefs some months ago, but he turned down Chiefs and opted for a return to Golden Arrows.

Mahachi joined Arrows on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns in September last year and went on to become one of the regulars at the club.

The Zimbabwean winger was then able to complete a permanent switch to Abafana Bes'thende ahead of this season as a free agent.

"I was supposed to go to Chiefs but I needed to make a decision. I went to Arrows [last season] and they gave me a chance to play. I owe them something for giving me a chance and that's why it was OK for me to go back to Arrows," he said.

Mahachi felt that having failed to command a regular place at Sundowns, a move to another big team, Chiefs in this case, was not ideal.

"Chiefs approached me [but] I told them that for now I will go back to Arrows to get my confidence [back]," he explained. "I'm not scared of the competition, but I need to grow my confidence first and then I can go to a big team."

Mahachi joined Sundowns ahead of the 2014-15 season and went on to make seven starts, plus eight substitute appearances, in all competitions.

He is delighted to be a part of Arrows.

"I'm happy in Durban and, firstly, I would like to thank the chairlady Mato Madlala. She is the one who said I must come to the club so that I can enjoy my game," he said.

Arrows, meanwhile, have been one of the surprise packages early on and are second on the Absa Premiership log behind Chiefs.

Both teams have 10 points after five matches, but Chiefs have a better goal difference.

"What makes us tick as a team is our coaches, Mandla Ncikazi and Clinton Larsen. They are pushing us as a team. We are a small club, but they make us feel that we are good players."

Arrows will host Chippa United at Princess Magogo Stadium when the Premiership programme resumes on October 15.
