Arrows can’t get big-headed about sharing league’s top spot: Larsen

Lamontville Golden Arrows Coach Clinton Larsen says his high-flying side must be careful not to get too carried away with their strong start to the new Absa Premiership season as they share top place in the early stages with Kaizer Chiefs after the first five rounds of the season.

“We can’t look too far ahead of ourselves. We are a small club in our second season back from the National First Division‚” the Arrows coach said.

“It’s the same old story for all of us. Get to 30 points as quickly as possible‚ then our next target is the top eight and then‚ depending on the number of games available after that‚ we look at the next target.

“We can’t get too excited and look too far ahead. As I said‚ we are a small club with limited resources and we’ll just keeping plugging away in each game.”

Arrows had won three matches in a row before Wednesday’ 1-1 draw at home with SuperSport United and missed out on a chance to set a new club record for four successive league wins when Wayde Jooste had his late penalty saved.

“Four unbeaten in a row now is a very good run nevertheless‚” added Larsen.

“All credit must go to the players for their fighting spirit. We could not ask for more. We have worked hard on the training field. But our final third preparation to finish needs a lot of improvement.”

A total of 30 points is seen by most coaches as the figure needed to avoid relegation with 60-plus the magical tally to bring home the title. – TMG Sport
