Komphela wins over Chiefs fans

Kaizer Chiefs mentor Steve Komphela is pleased that he is winning back the supporters and believes this augurs well for their season.

Instead of the usual jeers that have greeted Komphela over the months, Chiefs fans were cheering after their side won a second successive match having beaten Maritzburg United 2-0 at FNB Stadium at the weekend.

"In the end, we look at the three points... and when you lost you don't lose your sense of calmness, you still have to inspire players and you still have to speak in a manner that those that you have let down, the supporters, understand how it came about. When you win, you don't look back and say now I am seeking revenge," he said.

"You still need to maintain some sense of humility, which anyway is an 'H' that is represented at Kaizer Chiefs.

"We are delighted with the victory, it is three points and our supporters are also happy. The players are OK and it will help us in a long run," added Komphela, whose side will take on Free State Stars in their next match on Wednesday.

Komphela's counterpart Ernst Middendorp was not at all pleased with the officiating, though he didn't say so in as many words.

The German's gripe stemmed from their disallowed goal that was scored by Brian Onyango with a header in the first half.

This was after Bevan Fransman was adjudged to have pushed Lorenzo Gordinho in the box.

"We scored the goal, there is no doubt about it. You can discuss what you want, but it was a clear goal," Middendorp said.

Chiefs' goals were scored by Lorenzo Gordinho and William Twala.

Elsewhere, Baroka secured a first Absa Premiership win when they beat Platinum Stars 1-0 in Phokeng, while Free State Stars and SuperSport United played to a 0-0 draw.
