Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler says it is imperative for him to make sure that victory over Kaizer Chiefs in the new boys’ last outing does not go to his players’ heads.
City beat Chiefs 1-0 in Cape Town in the MTN8 quarter-final to set up a semi-final meeting with Bidvest Wits. The PSL newcomers will play the first leg in Johannesburg on Saturday night.
“A loss is always around the corner‚” Tinkler warned his players‚ whose first two matches have both ended in victory.
The new franchise made a winning start to their first game when they beat Polokwane City 2-0 in the league last month and have a record of two wins out of two with no goals conceded yet.
The Wits match is the first away trip for the club.
“We don’t want to see all our hard work being in vain. For us it is now all about building on what we have already achieved.”
Tinkler said the club have to be realistic about targets for their first season.
“Rebuilding a team does not happen overnight. It will take tome to grow and to get better. I think our objective must be to first and foremost stay in the league this season. Getting to that 30 point mark a quick as we can is the most important.”
The date for the second leg of the semifinal against Wits in Cape Town is still to be settled by the Premier Soccer League. - TMG Digital
