PSL set for frantic activity as clubs scramble to push through last-minute transfer deals

The transfer window in South Africa slams shut at midnight with the potential for some last-minute scrambling by Premier Soccer League clubs eager to bolster their squads.

There has been unprecedented movement in the market during this window as the likes of Orlando Pirates‚ Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United seek to find the competitive edge that was missing from their game last season.

Mamelodi Sundowns could complete the signing of Anele Ngcongca today‚ though his status as a free agent means he is not bound by the transfer window.

He told Belgian media at the weekend that he had signed a four-year contract with Sundowns already‚ though it appears he jumped the gun and the formalities still need to be completed.

Luvolwethu Mpeta is expected to complete his move back to Platinum Stars from SuperSport United‚ adding to the left-back options of Cavin Johnson.

Another SuperSport defender‚ Thamsanqa Teyise will also find out today whether he has been successful in his trial with Cape Town City.

But one of the stories of the day could be the future of highly-rated University of Pretoria winger Thabo Nemukondeni.

He has been linked with BidVest Wits and Ajax Cape Town in recent weeks‚ but Times Media Digital understands he is not a target for those two.

He will not be keen to spend a season in the National First Division though and will be hoping to push through a deal on deadline day.

Wits CEO Jose Ferreira told TMD that he does not expect any movement in or out of the club on Wednesday‚ but added: ‘You never know …”

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Thela Ngobeni is training with Free State Stars as they seek cover for Christopher Mafoumbi.

TMG previously reported that the Congo international had sustained an Achilles injury in training and was likely out for some months. - TMG Digital
