Hurt Chiefs no worry for Tinkler

Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler says Kaizer Chiefs will feel the pressure when Steve Komphela's limping charges line up against the new Premier Soccer League franchise in the MTN8 quarterfinals in the Mother City tomorrow night.

While Tinkler's side got their maiden top-flight campaign off to a positive start with a 2-0 victory over Polokwane City on Tuesday, Chiefs suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Bidvest Wits.

"The pressure is on them," Tinkler said. "After a first league match against Wits where both are title contenders, it was always going to be an interesting one to see who would come through that and I am happy they lost because they are now under more pressure."

His own side showed patches of good play against Polokwane but he also admitted that they had plenty of work to do before they are the finished article.

Tinkler believes his side will be better against Chiefs with the knowledge that they can make a serious statement about their own individual qualities against the Soweto giants.

"I definitely go into that game without any butterflies in my tummy. These are the games [against the likes of Polokwane] that us coaches worry about. When you are coaching Polokwane City, Cape Town City, Baroka FC, Bloemfontein Celtic, playing against Chiefs are the games you worry least about because you know who is going to pitch up on the day from your players.

"I believe we will put in a far better performance. It's a game that requires very little preparation. There's obviously advice I can give the players because I've played Chiefs so many times over the past four seasons.

"That becomes important, making sure they know where their strengths and weaknesses lie."

One concern for Tinkler is the way his side ran out of steam in the second half against Polokwane although goals from Bongi Jayiya in first half stoppage time and Aubrey Ngoma midway through the second period sealed the win.
