Chad Le Clos wins silver medal in men’s 200m freestyle

Chad Le Clos has won silver in the men’s 200m freestyle, adding to the silver teammate Cameron van der Burgh won the previous night.

Le Clos broke Jean Basson’s African record from 2009 as he clocked 1min 45.20sec behind China’s controversial Sun Yang in 1:44.65.

Le Clos went out hard, as he did in the heats and semifinals, but this time he didn’t fade as drastically, being overhauled only by Yang.

He fended off American Conor Dwyer by three-hundredths of a second.

Le Clos was scheduled to swim the 200m butterfly semifinal less than an hour later.
