Junior Bafana coach shows his hand for Olympic opener against Brazil

Lille striker Lebogang Mothiba will start up-front for the South African men’s Olympic team against Brazil at Stade Nacional Mane Garrincha in Brasilia.

Mothiba will partner Orlando Pirates forward Menzi Masuku up-front in Young Bafana’s opening game of Group A at the men’s football tournament of Rio 2016 on Thursday night (9pm SA time‚ 4pm in Brazil).

The men’s team’s match follows Banyana Banyana’s unfortunate 1-0 defeat to Sweden on Wednesday night.

Right wing Keagan Dolly will captain the team.

Coach Owen Da Gama has avoided the temptation to field Tyroane Sandows‚ the forward based at Brazil’s Gremio.

Highlands Park midfielder Mothobi Mvala has been included in central midfield ahead of Bidvest Wits’ Phumlani Ntshangase.

Maritzburg United utility player Deolin Mekoa appears set to start at left-back‚ next to the central defensive pairing of Rivaldo Coetzee and overage player Mulomowandau Mathoho‚ with Orlando Pirates’ new signing Abbubaker Mobara at right-back.

Mobara’s Bucs team-mate Gift Motupa will start at playmaker‚ with Aubrey Modiba on the left wing.
