Siyanda Xulu, Edward Manqele and Siphelele Mthembu have been given another chance at Kaizer Chiefs for now.

The three was placed on transfer two months ago, but with no suitors, these players have remained at Amakhosi and were part of the match-day team that beat Orlando Pirates 2-0 in the Carling Black Label Cup at the weekend. According to Chiefs football manager, Bobby Motaung, they will stay with Chiefs if there are no takers.

"They are still here. Fortunately for them, they are still part of the squad. They are contracted to the team. They can compete. They can still play for the team," Motaung said.

While Chiefs cited minimal contribution to the team by these players last season, Motaung is now singing their praises, that "their contribution to the team had been positive during pre-season".

"We saw that the hunger was not there before. Also, we felt that they needed to compete and play elsewhere. If you have a player like Siyanda Xulu [who is] a quality international player [but] he is not playing, we get worried. We rather release him. Unfortunately, there is no offer at the moment and we are keeping him," Motaung confirmed.

"He will be part of the squad and if the coach feels he needs to use him, he can use him. They are part of the team and the transfer list was given when we were off-loading the squad.

"But if there is an inquiry about them, they will be released. If there is no offer we will keep them. They will have to play and serve the club," Motaung added.

Xulu, who joined Amakhosi on a four-year contract in July last year, is further down the pecking after the arrival of Ramahlwe Mphahlele, who played at centre-back against Pirates after coming on as a substitute on Saturday.

And reading between the lines of what head coach Steve Komphela had to say about his strike force, Manqele and Mthembu will have to dig deep to make the match day squad let alone the starting line up.

"We are playing one leading striker and we have the number 10 joining [upfront]. I will count you the number of strikers: Lewis Macha, Emmanuel Letlotlo, Bernard Parker, Mitchell Katsvairo, Ryan Moon, Edward Manqele, Siphelele Mthembu - the list is long [but] you must choose one. We have to identify the ones that will do the job. Not that we are spoilt for choice, but we hope anyone we throw into any match, they get us a goal," Komphela said.
