SA U-23s take on Brazilian cops in Rio warmup

The South African Men’s Olympic team has secured a practice match against the Brazilian Police Department in Brasilia.

This is part of South Africa’s preparations for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in Brazil starting next week‚ Safa Media said.

The match is scheduled for Friday at Minas Tenis Clube.

Kickoff is at 10am local time (3pm SA time).

Head coach of the men’s Olympic team Owen Da Gama believes that they will be able to reach their objectives with the practice match.

“We would have loved to play another country‚ and we did try to arrange with other countries‚ however‚ they were not available. We also made enquiries with local clubs but nothing came of it‚” said Da Gama.

“We will play the police team in order to accomplish our objectives‚ which are‚ to firstly assist the players in getting the feel of the high tempo‚ and‚ secondly‚ to acclamatise to the conditions of a real match situation.”
