SuperSport United have not exercised their option on the contract of midfielder Enocent Mkhabela‚ who will be a free agent when his deal expires at the end of this month.

The 27-year-old was a key figure under former United coach Gordon Igesund‚ but has been discarded to the sidelines since the arrival of Briton Stuart Baxter.

He has not featured at all since January‚ so it comes as little surprise then that with the impending arrival of Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Cole Alexander‚ Mkhabela has been deemed surplus to requirements.

“SuperSport had an option to extend his contract but had to exercise that by May 31 and they failed to do so‚” the player’s agent Tim Sukazi told Times Media Digital.

“It means he will become a free agent and be able to join a club of his choice. We are currently looking at options for him.”

Mkhabela joined SuperSport from Platinum Stars ahead of the 2013/14 season‚ following coach Cavin Johnson from the North West province.

He had been a key figure in helping Dikwena to second in the league the previous season and his signature was much sought-after.

He started the 2014 Telkom Knockout final for SuperSport against his former club and ended up with a winners’ medal in a 3-2 victory.

His last match for SuperSport was the 1-0 home win over Free State Stars on January 30.
