Baloyi hopes for some CAF game time

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lucky Baloyi fancies his chances of getting more game time in the CAF Champions League, having struggled to consistently feature in the Absa Premiership.

Coach Steve Komphela is likely to rotate the squad to keep players fresh during the hectic period which lies ahead for Amakhosi.

Baloyi has made seven league appearances this season and is itching to feature more in the starting line-up and give his coach a selection headache.

Chiefs begin their Champions League campaign against Volcan Club of the Comoros at Stade Said Mohamed Cheikh on Sunday (2pm SA time), before hosting the second leg two weeks later at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

"I am happy here, but this thing of not getting game time is a bit of a problem. I have grown up and I have that confidence, so I have to work harder and be a regular in the team," said Baloyi.

"Personally it [the Champions League] will help me grow. I am looking forward to facing players on the continent, so it won't be easy.

"There'll be PSL matches and Champions League matches, so chances are there for me to play. There'll be suspensions, injuries and so on."

Baloyi, a former junior international, believes he would have received a Bafana Bafana call-up by now if he were getting regular game time.

It's been difficult for him to break into the starting line-up, with Willard Katsande doing ever so well in the holding midfield role.

"I know what kind of player I am. I think I would be representing Bafana Bafana or I would have offers from clubs overseas.

"If I get that chance, I believe I can still make it. When you play after a while, it's not easy to get that confidence because you are scared to make mistakes, but the technical team is there for us and they give us courage. Even the players on the pitch help me a lot," he said.
