With the Kaizer Chiefs showdown looming on the horizon tomorrow, Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt was always going to be caught between a rock and a hard place when it came to team selection.

That explained why he left Daine Klate and Elias Pelembe on the bench for Saturday's 1-0 win over Golden Arrows at Chatsworth Stadium.

The injury bug currently doing the rounds at the club meant that Phumlani Ntshangase had to be risked despite carrying three yellow cards.

Consequently, Ntshangase's yellow card for a foul on Mahlatse Makudubela means the nuggety midfielder will be missing through suspension against Chiefs.

"We had to make changes because we have a lot of players who are either injured or suspended. James Keene is also injured and I don't think he will be back in time for the Chiefs clash," Hunt said.

"There's Ntshangase, Papy Faty, Onismor Bhasera, Nazeer Allie who are all missing. I can go and on."

While Wits are second on the table, they have not been in the best of form and Hunt was quick to admit that his team has been below par.

With the CAF Confederation Cup and the Nedbank Cup also in the horizon, Hunt said his side would battle for continental honours despite Ajax Cape Town withdrawing for security and logistical reasons.

There is also the small matter of catching up to Mamelodi Sundowns, but Hunt said the fat lady hasn't even cleared her throat, let alone sing, yet.

"There are 12 or 13 games to go, so who knows," he said. "There's still a long way to go but they are playing very well at the moment, but we'll see how it goes."
