The fact that Kaizer Chiefs have not won at least two matches in a row in the Absa Premiership this season frustrates midfielder Willard Katsande.

It's quite astonishing that the defending champions have gone from the dominant side they were last season to struggling to get two wins on the trot in the league this term.

On four occasions this season, fourth-placed Amakhosi have gone on to draw immediately after winning.

After their 2-0 victory over Golden Arrows on Tuesday, Amakhosi are eager to break the jinx by registering a second straight victory for the first time this season when they host bottom-of-the-table Maritzburg United tomorrow at FNB Stadium. Kickoff is at 6pm.

"We have not won two games in a row, and that's what we are hoping for.

"We want to change things because we are reaching the climax of the league, and that's when we need the points," Katsande said yesterday.

Katsande, who has scored three goals this season, prefers chasing rather than being chased in the race for the title because he believes teams at the top tend to relax, especially when they have a substantial lead.

He would know what it feels like to be overtaken, having been part of the Chiefs team that squandered a 10-point lead in 2013-2014 as they lost the title to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Amakhosi are now 10 points behind leaders Sundowns, but have not given up on winning the title.

"It's better to chase than be chased. If you are being chased, you are bound to relax.

"Right now we are chasing those who are ahead of us, so I think it's better that way. It makes the football interesting and the soccer fans will be happy because they can see all the drama. There will be a lot of twists and turns."

Chiefs will be without the suspended duo of Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Mulomowandau Mathoho, while Katsande himself is a yellow card away from a one-match ban.
