Defeat leaves Middendorp cursing

If Maritzburg United were as sharp as their coach's tongue, they would have been in the top-half of the table, if not battling for league honours.

Ernst Middendorp is pretty skilled at dishing out expletives, but does he have the skills to help his blunt team find a sharp edge?

Middendorp was seething at how his team let a lead slip and at how defender Brian Onyango conceded an unnecessary red card in Wednesday's loss to Polokwane City.

"We made individual mistakes in the first 10 minutes and continued with them for the better part of the game.

"Then there was the red card and bringing the opposition into a position where they could actually win the game. We are in charge of what we do on the field but if we want to stay in the PSL, we need to stop this sh*t!" Middendorp said.

Should the relegation battle go down to the wire, goal difference will become a factor and it's not pretty for Maritzburg.

Points are still a worry as they have accrued only eight from their 16 matches but the eye-popping 35 goals they have conceded makes for sobering reading.

Middendorp also did not take kindly to being asked about his future with the club, which conceded six goals in the past two games.

"Have you taken something? I don't think that's an appropriate question to ask," he responded.

"I don't understand why this question is being asked when the team has done well and should have got more points from SuperSport United and [Orlando] Pirates.

"Now that this question is asked, that's the sh*t I don't understand."
