Teko Modise returned to training at Mamelodi Sundowns on Thursday after recovering from the eye infection that kept him out of action last weekend.

The former international playmaker had to sit out Saturday’s 2-0 win over Chippa United in Atteridgeville in the first round of the Telkom Knockout because of the infection‚ which coach Pitso Mosimane said had spread from one eye to the other.

As such infections are usually contagious‚ Modise stayed away from the encounter and has been absent for several training sessions.

But officials confirmed he was back in training with the rest of the squad without any ill effects and would be fine to return to action.

Sundowns do not play again until next weekend when they host Polokwane City at Atteridgeville on Sunday‚ October 18.

Modise’s pivotal role for Sundowns is reflected in his consistent selection by Mosimane.

Last season he played in all but three of Sundowns’ games and has a full quota of appearances in the league this season too. The 32-year-old is expected to be back for the next match.
